It was barely spring but the leaves were full of water, the ground mushy and the land was flat enough to see the rising mist of cool and warm air way out into the distance. It smelled like fresh rain. This work is based on a fond memory of a day trip wandering to one of the best art museums in Europe, the Dutch Kroller-Muller Museum it is  noted for its collection of modern art from the late 19th-century and early 20th-century, and its extensive sculpture garden...and a huge collection of Van Gogh.

 While walking through this forest, radically  different than Pennsylvania it made me think and reflect on Max Ernst and Rene Magritte (from Brussels) and the surrealists and their interest in dreams.  With their art in mind I thought the trees should sway freely , no roots just float in the air.
