DARK LEGENDS Halloween's origins date back 2000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when it was believed the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. One of the most haunting examples is Doon Hill, Aberfoyle, Scotland. in the woods of Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park home to the famous FAIRY TREE, a lone pine nestled among a forest of oak trees. The tree is thought to mark the entrance to a Fairy Queen's magical underground palace. According to legends, this palace remained a hidden secret until 1691 when a local reverend, Robert Kirk revealed the location in his book, The Secret Commonwealth of Elves Fauns and Fairies, thus angering the magical inhabitants. They cursed the reverend for this, and his spirit is said to still haunt those who visit the forest. On certain days, you can see the ghost of Reverend Kirk wandering close to the pine tree, forever guarding the entrance.
